Executive Reports:
Commodore
Seasons Greetings to everyone. I wish you all
the best in the New Year. Speaking of the new year, here’s
what’s in the works for our Club as we move forward intoa new
boating season.
1. As you can see, Ray has volunteered to
restart our newsletter to try and keep the members better
informed as to “what’s going on”
2. We are currently reviewing our bylaws, with
the intent to revise them as necessary to ensure that we are in
compliance. Any changes would of course have to be approved at a
general meeting, hopefully in February.
3. A Social Committee has been informed to help
come up with more ideas and “fun things” to do for both our
shore meetings and cruising functions.
4. We are looking at a
revamp/overhaul/replacement of our web site in an attempt to
make it more modern, user friendly and easily updated to keep
members better informed. The vision is to have our site used as
a “Virtual Clubhouse” by all the members. I look forward to
hearing from anyone who has any ideas or comments on changes
that we implement to improve our Club “experiences”.
Just remember, it does take volunteers to make
things happen-so make sure your name is on the list!
Cheers;
Tom
Treasurer
Well, at last all of the beans have been counted
from our 2008/2009 boating year Luckily (or through the magic of
skillful bookkeeping) we managed to come uptop with a surplus of
$196.08. We did have a couple of shortcomings which were offset
by prudent spending in other areas. One of the major sources of
unexpected income was that received from IYC Blaine who turned
over the remainder of funds from when they were a viable entity.
IYC Blaine’s donation amounted to $14034.36. There is only one
string attached, and that is the funds should be used to
supplement the cruising budget at a rate of about $1000 per year
which should not be too hard to take. Other area of “good news”
included a higher than expected membership return rate, a profit
of about $530 on liquor tickets for our meetings. Commodore’s
Ball tickets for 2008 sold more than expected which reduced the
normal anticipated loss for that event. Roger Gibb’s sailing
program netted a surplus of about $1000 which was really great.
The bad news was the shortfall of new members; we had hoped to
capture 7 but fell short by 3. Our dinner tickets continue to be
a source of subsidy especially those taken at the Rotary Field
House to the tune of $870……Hummmm looks like we drink morethan
we eat. Am I surprised? We didn’t sell any burgees this year so
our projection of $125 fell apart so to speak. We gathered a tad
on interest from our GIC’s $24 more than the expected $3,000.
All in all we have done reasonably well and managed to have
pretty neat events like the Christmas Sail Past and the Opening
Day ceremonies. 2009/2010 looks to be much the same with
hopefully more fun events. We have a healthy bank balance with
which we hope to improve our web site among other things. We
have re-invested into GIC’s and now hold two, one for $25,000
and another for $75,000. Unfortunately, interest rates are not
all that great at the present time and I think we have done as
well as can be expected with a little help from “Banker
Bob”.
Race Director
After three consecutive heavy wind race days
(which is definitely unusual) the Fall Series has wrapped up.
The Division winners were:
Division 1 Division 2 Division 3
First Hushwings Zen No Zen Passtime
Second Conquest Exeat Sgain Dubh
Third Joy Mistral Mouette
After a lapse of several years we are
experimenting with reviving the BARC (Bay Area Race Council)
Series together with Tsawwassen YC and Point Roberts YC. Race
dates are March 20 (TYC), May 15 (IYC) and August 7 (PRYC). Long
distance races are planned, starting out in the vicinity of
Border Marker F (Crescent Beach). More details to be worked out.
IYC has withdrawn our Semiahmoo Bay International Regatta from
the VARC Series, due in part to the lack of attendance by
Vancouver racers; racers from Bellingham had also stopped
attending. Apart from knowing we will be putting on races the
weekend of April 24 and 25, the rest is an empty palette waiting
for us to fill in – so stand by for more details as they
develop. The race calendar for 2010 has been put together and is
available on our website. No races will be run during the
Olympics, so the Winter Series is split into two. We have
therefore cancelled our normal Spring Series, and added in the
May 15 th
BARC Race.Winter Series races
start on Saturday January 9th
at 1030 – why not come and
give your sailboat some exercise?

(Chuckle of the quarter)
Grandpa was tucking himself into bed when his
grandson came in to say goodnight, Grandpa asked if he would go
to the bathroom and bring him one of the little “blue pills” on
the counter and if he did there would be $100.00 under his
breakfast plate in the morning.
In the morning the grandson came running into
the bedroom, Grandpa, Grandpa you said there would be $100.00
under my plate but there was a $1000.00.
Grandpa smiled and explained “the $100.00 was
from him and the $900.00 was from his Grandma”.
Merry Xmas and a Prosperous New Year to
everyone.
